Shakira Shakira Shakira. Pies Descalzos Foundation Investing In Our Kids
The bad ass, hip moving, exotic body dancer is more than just a pretty woman with a banging body if I must say so myself. But Shakira is a woman with depth, soul and character. Because once you sell the millions of records to millions of adoring fans, someone's going to ask you what lies beneath the surface. That's the point when they are really interested in getting to know the person that they are idolizing or worshipping. Shakira has a lot of depth to her soul and she is a good person. Quite often, the good that celebrities do go unmentioned.
Pies Descalzos Foundation, along with its US Counterpart, The Barefoot Foundation was created by Shakira. She created the foundations to advocate for ealy childhood development. You see, Shakira even serves on President Obama's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In other words, Shakira is more than just a belly dancing heartthrob for grown men, women and teenie boopers alike. Shakira is an educator.
You see, we all know Shakira for her angelic beauty, curvy hip shaking and sensual voice. Kids all around the world know Shakira for her warmth, generosity and her dedication to doing something good with her celebrity status. Shakira's movement and cause is something positive that is actually changing the world for the better. Shakira explains in her own words, "Growing up in the developing world, I've seen so much injustice," says the Grammy Award Winner, who was born in Columbia. In Columbia, almost a third of the people live in poverty. "The one thing I can do is my part to help raise awareness."
Shakira launched Pies Descalzos Foundation when she was only 18 years of age. She named the organization after her third album. We all know that children without education in today's age are a lost cause and unless they win the lottery or become pop stars themselves, they are going to live a rough life and are headed down a long and very tough road. That's why super pop star Shakira, is actually doing her part to make sure that every child has the opportunity to have a fighting chance. Not just the lucky kids, but the world's population of kids.
Shakira's full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll and she was born to a wealthy middle-class family. Shakira Ripoll attended Catholic school and she recoded her first album when she was only 13 years old. Amazingly enough, Shakira's foundation has built six schools in Columbia. The benefit her schools serve is that they give 6,000 children the opportunity to at least have an opportunity to get ahead in life. Shakira is currently working on a 7th school which will serve 1,800 children in Cartagena. She has even expanded some of her work into Haiti. "When you start seeing the kids graduate and go to college," she says, "it's so fulfilling." That jars it.. I'm going to buy every Shakira album that comes out from now on. I had no idea that she was such a humanitarian.
Shakira's hometown is Barranquilla, where it's usually 95 degrees. Shakira would sometimes complain about the heat. But when she did that, her parents taught her a lesson. They took Shakira to a local park where orphans without parents would have to sniff glue to quell their hunger. Fortunately, this lesson made a very lasting impression on Shakira. She promised herself that she would do something to help those kids once she became rich. Shakira is living up to that promise today. "I would do something for those kids who apparently had no chance in life."
Even though Shakira's school in Barranquilla has a population of about 9,000 children, only 2,000 children have access to the school. The way Shakira sees it, "the rest of the children are all doomed to fail. I always wonder how their destinies could change if they had a safe place to go where they could just be children."
Wow, Shakira. I didn't know that God made humanitarians like you anymore. But knowing that you are out there sure gives a guy like me hope. Shakira explains that there is so much to do and apparently, she feels like she is racing against the clock to save these children. "Time is merciless," Shakira explains. "So I focus on the solution rather than the problem. Investing in education is the most efficient tool to fight voilence." Shakira gets that investing in our kids is the world's last hope. It's the last thing we can do to save our world from complete chaos. Children are "our world's greatest resource. Not oil. Not gas. It's the children of the world."
Shakira says that her son was born with everyone. As a mother it's her duty to show him how other's live. That's how she intends to keep her son grounded and in tune with reality. Shakira wants her son to appreciate the value of everything that he has, and to be good, generous and compassionate. My question is only, where can I order me a Shakira. She is awesome and quite the humanitarian. And you can't front on the hip work, cause baby girl know how to shake it!
