Famed Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has always been known as a charitable soul, but last year he decided to up the ante on himself and organized a fundraising gala for his foundation.
However, it seems that the international superstar has outdone himself again, as this year’s gala held in St. Tropez on July 22nd raised a whopping $40 million to help save and preserve the environment! The gala featured a live auction, and the raised sum absolutely whipped the floor with last year’s $25 million.
DiCaprio gave a speech, saying that “We’ve decimated our forests, wild lands, polluted and over-fished our rivers and oceans, all the key ecosystems that not only serve as a home to our planet’s biodiversity, but also make life here for us possible. I’m incredibly proud to be part of a night that will allow us to do so much to protect the planet.”
The star-studded event wheeled-in celebs of all calibers, including Orlando Bloom, Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn, Sylvester Stallone, and even a couple of royals like Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. The evening featured surprise performances by Sir Elton John and John Legend, whose wife Chrissy Teigen also attended the event.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation is on a good path to changing our planet’s imminent sad future.
