President Obama Approval Rating Is Split

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama's job performance. Fifty-two percent (52%) disapprove (see trends).
These figures include 21% who Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing as president and 41% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20.

Fifty-nine percent (59%) of voters believe gaining control of the border is more important when it comes to immigration reform.  Just 34% consider legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States more important. Voters remain strongly supportive of tough sanctions on employers who hire these illegals and of automatic immigration checks during routine police traffic stops. 
Voters believe by a four-to one margin that no matter how bad something is, Congress can always make it worse. 
For the second straight week, Republicans hold a one-point edge on the Generic Congressional Ballot.
Scott Rasmussen’s weekly newspaper column notes that “only one-in-four voters today thinks our government has the consent of the governed.” He adds, “That's a clear call for our government to change its ways and re-earn the trust of those it is supposed to serve. Those are the kind of attitudes that make the Political Class nervous. The fact that we expect more comes from the fact that we as a nation still embrace the Spirit of '76.”

Seventy-three percent (73%) oppose the United States getting more involved in Egypt.  Just 29% give the Obama administration good marks for its handling of the political crisis there.

Obama Total Approval - July 9, 2013
Sixty-two percent (62%) believe free market competition will do more than increased government regulation to reduce health care costs.  Just 22% hold the opposite view.
Thirty-three percent (33%) of Americans believe the economy will be stronger in a year. Forty-one percent (41%) believe it will be weaker. There is a huge gap between investors and non-investors. Forty-six percent (46%) of investors predict a stronger economy next year, compared to just 19% of non-investors.
Obama Approval Index - July 9, 2013To deal with long-term unemployment, 24% of Americans want the federal government to assume ongoing financial responsibility for those affected. This includes 13% who want the federal government to hire them and 11% who want to see federal unemployment benefits extended indefinitely. Sixty-five percent (65%) want the government to do nothing (34%) or provide retraining only (31%).
